Welcome to Vera Academy!

We have founded this studio with the goal of creating a positive, nurturing environment for students to learn to love the arts of dance and gymnastics and discover the limitless potential that is inside of them.  We offer a full program of dance classes in Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Pointe, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Pom and Cheer, and Dance Technique as well as Gymnastics, Tumbling, and Movement for ages 18 months and up. We are confident that your interest in the performing arts will be challenged and developed by taking part in one or more of our classes.

On this website, you will find our studio policies.  We ask that you carefully read over the information and discuss it with your child/children. You will also find our 2023-2024 class schedule and tuition information.  We are now able to accept online registrations for classes through our website. We encourage you to register online to ensure your spot is reserved in the class times that are convenient for your schedule. If online registration is not for you, registration may also be completed by contacting the studio.  If you are uncertain what class your child would benefit from or in what level to place your child, please email or call the studio.

We are continually adding to and updating our current schedule so please check our website often. If you have any questions or requests, let us know through phone or email. We can't wait to see you in class! Classes begin the week of September 10, 2023!

Sincerely,

Vera Academy of Dance & Gymnastics

Information and Policies

Accounts

The Fall-Spring tuition is based on about 36 weeks excluding holidays and vacation weeks and is due based on the payment option you choose online or on your registration form (please see the payment options on the Dance and Gymnastics pages). A $99.00 minimum is required the first week of the first semester if the total cost of tuition is not known. Vera Academy accepts payment for classes in cash, by check, or credit card.  Tuition not received as scheduled will result in a weekly late charge of $10 per student. Returned checks will result in a $30 charge followed by payment in cash or by credit card. Outstanding tuition may result in the temporary suspension of your child until the account is current. Students with outstanding balances will not be allowed to compete or perform in our performances. We do not want to deny any student the opportunity to learn or perform so if needed, please call the studio to arrange an alternative payment plan. Pro-rated refunds will only be given if the student withdraws before the fourth week of class. There are no tuition refunds for missed classes, withdrawing during the session, or class cancellations due to weather or other circumstances outside of our control. There are no refunds or adjustments for costumes. There are no price adjustments for late class registration.

Attendance and Student Conduct

Attendance is very important for the success of the student and of the class. Classes start at a scheduled time and promptness is expected. Students coming in late cause too much distraction, delay, and will not be properly warmed-up for class. Good attendance is imperative, as absences and tardiness can hold back an entire class. The studio cannot jeopardize its responsibilities to the rest of the class for one student so please make every effort to attend every class and arrive on time. Please contact the studio as soon as possible if a student must miss a class due to illness or family obligation. Any missed classes cannot be made up. Excessive absences may result in the student not being part of our performances. No food, gum, or drink is allowed in the studios. A lounge area is provided for food and drink outside of class time. Please show respect for your instructors, fellow dancers, and all Vera Academy equipment by cleaning up after yourself when using the studio, lounge, bathrooms, and changing areas. Please make sure you arrive on time for your class, are in proper attire, and are ready to learn with a positive attitude.  If a student acts in a manner that creates an unsafe learning environment, that student will be dismissed immediately. No refund will be given if a student is asked to leave class or the studio due to misconduct. Absolutely no cell phones allowed in the studios at any time.

Class Cancellation

Classes may be cancelled or combined if less than five students are registered for a particular class. In the case of teacher illness, a suitable substitute will be sought out; however, classes may be cancelled if one is not available. Inclement Weather circumstances will be handled on a case by case basis and cancelations will be determined based on predicted driving conditions during class times.  Cancellations will be announced by email and Band message.

Class Registration and Placement

Most classes run for 36 weeks beginning September 10, 2023 and ending May 25, 2024. To register for classes, please register online through our website: www.VeraDanceAcademy.com. If you prefer, a registration form may be completed and mailed, emailed, or dropped off to Vera Academy. Your place in class will not be reserved without a completed online registration or current registration form. Confirmation of your registration will be sent via email. To select the right class for you, please consider the student’s age, dance ability, experience, and maturity. Once the season has started, changes between levels may be made based on teacher recommendation.

Class Withdrawals

Class withdrawals must be made in writing with a 30 day notice. Remaining tuition due/pro-rated refunds will be determined on a case by case basis. No show attendance of classes does not constitute a class withdrawal and tuition charges will continue to accumulate until proper notice is given in writing.

Costumes

Costumes will be ordered mid-October during class times. Each student must have at least one parent/caregiver stop in at the studio to order costumes.  Costumes average cost is $60-$90 per costume and payment is due at time of ordering; no costume will be ordered unless payment is received in full. Costumes cannot be returned. Exchanges may be made for size only. Parents are responsible for any alterations that need to be done to costumes as Vera Academy is not responsible for costumes that do not fit properly.

Dad’s Dance

Dad’s Dance is a choreographed dance featuring Vera dance students and their dads or significant adult. It is performed at the Spring Recital with practices starting in February. Exact dates and times will be given later in the year.

Parades

We plan to participate in the Shawano Homecoming Parade in September and Santa Parade in December. The dance routine will be learned in class and more information will be given closer to the dates.

Parent Observation

Parents will be invited to observe classes at specific times throughout the season. Beyond those specific invitations, parent observation is not allowed in dance and gymnastics classes.

Parking

The main entrance to the studio is behind the building.  For safety reasons there is no parking in front of the glass door in the back of the studio. Parking is available in the front of the studio but the front door is not to be used as an exit or entrance.  Parking is also available in the public parking lot across Division Street (behind Cornerstone Chiropractic).

Pictures

Class and individual pictures will be taken during the season. You will receive information about exact dates and times at a later time. They are tentatively scheduled for March/April.

Private Lessons

Any student has the option of registering for a private lesson. This is on a first come, first serve basis as time slots are limited. Please make your day and time requests by filling the request form at https://www.veradanceacademy.com/extra-dance-request-form and we will try to accommodate them. Once confirmed, it is the student's responsibility to notify the instructor of an absence in advance. There are no make-ups for missed lessons. However, if the student will be absent, they can switch the lesson time with another student with instructor approval. Another dance class must be taken in addition to any solo, duet/trio, or small group.

Spring Recital

All dance classes except Dance Technique and Dance Acro will be featured in our Spring Recital in May/June. Gymnasts will be invited to perform in a Gymnastics Exhibition at the Spring Recital, but participation is not required. The dress rehearsal will be the evening before the recital and the recital will be on a Saturday late May/Early June at the Shawano High School auditorium. Exact times for the dress rehearsal and performance will be announced as soon as they are available. The recital will be recorded; order forms will be handed out starting two weeks before the recital.

Used Shoe Sale

Please bring your gently used dance shoes to the studio and drop them off at our reception desk if you would like to have them sold on consignment or simply passed on to another student. Each pair of shoes should be in a clear bag and labeled with your name, size, and price. New dance shoes may be ordered anytime through the studio; please contact the studio for more information.
